Efficient healthcare provision through digitalized processes and future-proof IT
Germany’s Hospital Future Act (KHZG) has laid the foundation for enhancing digitalization in the healthcare sector. In mid-February 2022, the first results of the “digital radar”, which measures digital readiness according to the requirements of the KHZG for hospitals, were published. These results show that the degree to which different institutions have completed their path towards digitalization varies and that different priorities are set. Deploying modern IT systems can simplify processes and administration work, guarantee efficient management, and drive progress as well as development on the path to digital readiness.
Current challenges for transformation projects in the healthcare sector arise from the shortage of specialists, which is particularly noticeable in specialist departments and IT. This shortage of resources poses hurdles for the staffing of the project, which must compensate for the lack of availability.
Furthermore, the option of "system conversion" is not available as a transformation path with IS-H/i.s.h.med. Due to statutory maintenance, the IS-H system requires continuous changes and the necessary double maintenance of the project systems requires short project runtimes.
Another challenge arises from the lack of healthcare-specific content for SAP S/4HANA. For this reason, outdated processes often serve as the starting point.
It is also important to get all stakeholders on board. IS-H/i.s.h.med users should be affected as little as possible by the introduction of SAP S/4HANA. For this reason, the IS-H-relevant configurations and master data in the new SAP S/4HANA must basically correspond to those of the previous SAP ERP.
Data migration to SAP S/4HANA is particularly challenging, as access to historical data must be guaranteed for MDK processes and disputes with health insurance companies. The data migration is therefore very extensive and is not a standard case. Furthermore, a close link between IS-H and IS-H-relevant ERP data is necessary.
As an SAP focus partner for the healthcare sector, Scheer GmbH can provide targeted support to raise the maturity level of digitization to the next level of certification as quickly as possible.

Our process and digitalization experts consult and support on topics ranging from digital solutions for your resource management with SAP S/4HANA, integrated and modern cloud solutions for procurement and travel management to the support and operation of your IT-systems, whilst always taking highest security standards for sensitive health and corporate data into account.
SAP is the digital core for digitized healthcare, enabling healthcare facilities of all kinds to provide their processes and services in a data-driven and automated manner while remaining audit-proof and compliant with data protection regulations.
With SAP, you can digitize business processes in accounting, purchasing and procurement, human resources and building management for intelligent resource management at your healthcare facility: from recruiting to personnel planning to billing or from purchase requisitions to goods and invoice receipt to payment or the building management of your facilities and branches and much more on the basis of SAP S/4HANA. Together with your experts and the users of your healthcare facility's business processes, our consultants develop a sensible strategy, a roadmap, to manage the path to digitalization.
Using preliminary studies or analyses, we find the right transformation scenario for the switch to SAP S/4HANA, examine processes, harmonize and optimize them and support you in the targeted switch, the transformation to SAP S/4HANA - of course with the appropriate operating model; whether in the greenfield, brownfield or bluefield approach, whether using a waterfall model or agile methodology.
These reasons support an S/4HANA-first strategy:
Do you use i.s.h.med? Then you can continue to use this solution for the time being: The creation of a dual system landscape with an SAP S/4HANA system, in which finance and controlling and materials management processes are already running, and an "old" ECC system with the integrated i.s.h.med solution and familiar functionality. Real-time communication via IDoc ensures the required data exchange.
Or do you want to avoid duplicate maintenance costs and prefer to set up an optimal system landscape to be equipped for the future? Then we recommend using a hybrid landscape: a new SAP S/4HANA in on-premises operation, combined with the SAP Patient Accounting module as a cloud solution to manage patient billing and payment processing.
No matter which path you choose: We will help you get to the next level of the EMRAM model - with many years of experience in SAP implementation and transformation projects paired with certification as an SAP Gold Partner, as a proven expert in process optimization and process harmonization and, above all, as an SAP focus partner in the healthcare sector.
